POST & MAIL

POST & MAIL

When sending and receiving letters or parcels in Guyana, there are various rules, charges, services to be kept in mind and providers to consider. From the public post office to special delivery companies.

Post office

Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) is the public post office.  Most post offices in Guyana are open Mondays to Fridays (9am - 5pm). You can purchase stamps and postage, but you are generally expected to have the parcel ready to be sent. The post office also offers non-postal services like bill payment, money transfers, cheque cashing and office space rental.

Sending letters & Parcels

Letters and parcels can be posted via post office locations. Prices for sending vary by destination within Guyana and overseas. To send a registered or insured letter, extra costs apply.

Prices for sending parcels outside Guyana may differ per country. Identification (e.g. passport) is needed when posting a package at the post office.

Customs clearance

Registered, express and ordinary parcels sent from Guyana go through customs clearance. Customers reduce processing time by creating a Customs Declaration form online or via an Android app. Along with the package, ID and, proof of address are needed. Find out more about the process and documentation requirements.

Track & Trace

For an extra charge, you can add a Track & Trace code to your parcel or letter. Once the item is underway, you can track and trace your parcel here.

Delivery companies

Most information on this page is about sending letters and parcels via GPOC. There are also other specialised delivery companies such as DHL, FedEx or UPS.

Many online shoppers use a mailbox service partner that consolidates their packages in Miami and ships to Guyana in a few days.
