HANDLING emergencIES in Guyana

EMERGENCY SERVICES

When you move to a new country, it’s important to learn how its emergency services work.

Emergency numbers

If you’re moved to Guyana from the US, you will be familiar with 911. The main emergency number in Guyana is 911 but this is not the universal number for all emergencies. It is for the police. The number for Fire is 912 and for Medical emergencies, 913

police

The police in Guyana fulfill several roles, such as maintaining public order, offering assistance to people under threat and investigating and prosecuting crime.

If you have an emergency that requires the police, you should call the emergency number 911. If you don’t have an emergency, but you still need to contact the police, you can call: (+592) 225-2700, 226-4585, or (+592) 227-6123.

Fire

If you need the fire brigade, call 912

Medical emergencies

If you are in need of an ambulance, you need to call 913 but this number is not always operational and an ambulance may not be available. There are also private firms that provide emergency medical assistance. Find out more about healthcare in Guyana.

Security
