Guyanese ENERGY supply

Guyana is a resource-rich country with plentiful sunshine and water. However, many of these renewable energy sources have not been developed to generate energy at scale to residents.

Electricity supply in Guyana

Guyana Power and Light (GPL) is the publicly owned utility company that produces and distributes fossil-fuel based electricity throughout the country with the exception of Linden. In Linden, power is supplied by the Linden Power Company.

How do I pay my electric bill?

Payment can be made physically at GPL locations and banks, or online via Bill payment services.

What about solar electricity?

Because of its location close to the equator, Guyana consistently receives abundant sunshine year round. Solar electricity has become an increasingly popular option and there are a growing number of independent providers who install and manage solar panels.

Will my devices work?

Domestic voltage in Guyana is 110 or 220 depending on the area.

Is gas used in homes?

Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) may be used to power your stove and other devices. Gas tanks of varying sizes are sold by private companies with many locations throughout the country. These companies typically manage installation and replenishment.

Are you renting a house? Often, your landlord will have made energy arrangements. If not, you will be responsible for making arrangements.
