Guyanese are friendly and social. With so many national holidays - one for almost every month of the year - and so much to explore, you may be wondering what to do… what do Guyanese do on their days off?

There is usually some aspect of casually getting together (liming) with friends and family on their days days off. Read on to find out how to occupy your time off:

  1. Try the local cuisine. Guyana is a cultural melting-pot when it comes to cuisine. There will be food, snacks and beverages involved in any get together. Find out how Guyanese enjoy their rum and beer.

  2. Get together with friends: If you have joined a club or association, find out what members may be doing and join in.

  3. Explore the capital, Georgetown: Depending on the weather, the busy capital city would be the place to visit a number of indoor entertainment options - cinemas, restaurants, distillery tours, etc A number of museums and cultural institutions may also be worth a visit.

  4. Appreciate nature and wildlife: Guyana is a true adventurer and nature-lover's paradise. Here are a few ideas to enjoy the outdoors:

    • Visit the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway

    • Marvel at Kaiteur Falls

    • Bird-watching and wildlife night-spotting

    • Visit an Indigenous Village
